Homemade Hand Lotion

LotionpicSome time ago, I wrote a post on some solutions for dry mommy hands.  Since then, I've continued to  look for the perfect lotion, but have not been able to find it.  Don't get me wrong, the suggestions I gave do work, but I would love to have something in lotion form.

One day, I got curious and went looking for a homemade lotion recipe, and found a simple one that uses only three ingredients!  You can find the recipe here.  The woman who came up with this recipe also goes into detail about shelf life and preservatives.

I made this recipe the other night, and I must say, not only is it super easy to do, but it is probably the best lotion I have ever had.  I added some lavender essential oil to it and it smells fantastic.  And because it is pretty inexpensive to make, I don't feel bad about how many times I've had to wash lotion off my hands after just putting it on because I had to change a diaper or put in laundry, and therefore wasting money.

Try this recipe.  You won't be disappointed!

*A couple of important notes on this recipe*: The author of the recipe says you can microwave the water in order to boil it.  Never, ever, ever microwave a liquid to boil it!  There is a serious risk of what is known as "superheating."  Basically, the liquid gets really, really hot but doesn't boil, and as soon as you add anything to it, the liquid will erupt and could burn you.  Always use the stove to heat liquids.  Also, make sure you use the waterbath method she describes to melt the wax.  Wax is flamable, so don't do something silly like stick it in the microwave.  And trust me, this recipe may sound complicated, but it is really super easy.
