Summer has so many wonderful tastes. I love bringing them to kitchen tables where watering mouths await.
This week’s taste: Homemade Strawberry Pie! I used the Betty Crocker Strawberry Pie recipe (without the food coloring) and the only complaint we had was that the pie was gone so fast! Today I ordered 100 pounds of organic peaches from a great orchard that delivers to our local Farmers Market and 4o pounds of organic nectarines from Azure Standard. Man I can’t wait to sink my teeth into those babies! I have a list as long as my arm filled with all the things I want to make with them (fruit leather, smoothies, pies, cobblers, freeze chunks for smoothies later on. . .). What is left will get canned for the cold winter months when we can no longer remember what it was like to have sun-kissed cheeks and grass stained knees.
Have I ever mentioned that I grew up on an orchard? We grew cherries, apricots, nectarines, peaches, plums, pears, apples, grapes, raspberries. . . it was awesome to have so many wonderfully fresh fruits each summer. The downside is that I now have a very SPOILED fruit palate and the grocery store peaches just won’t cut it. I look forward to sharing some of the delectable dishes that are in the cue.
What are your favorite summer recipes?
