A week ago Sunday, Hunter was playing tag with his grandmother in the back yard. We have a little plastic house (shown in the photo below) that they often play in (or on).
(by the way, don’t the clouds in this photo look fake?)
In an attempt to escape his grandmothers tag, Hunter climbed up onto the roof of the little house. Losing his balance, he fell to the ground landing on his left arm. Judging by its misshapen appearance, we immediately knew it was broken. Grabbing some Ibuprofen and an ice pack (i.e. frozen veggies), Hunter and I headed to the emergency room. We had not been in the car longer than 5 minutes when, between his sobs, he declared, “I’m really glad that in Heaven there is no pain!” After agreeing, I grabbed a pen and paper and scribbled down his quote as I drove (thankfully this did not create a second need to visit the ER). Over the course of the evening I kept that paper close at hand as Hunter provided several quotes that made me smile. Below are my favorites:
“God knew this was going to happen, didn’t He?”
Pointing to the broken arm: “This is the arm I really liked too.”
“Mom, I’m really thankful that I didn’t break either of my feet.”
“I’m really glad we came to the Dr. there are so many interesting things here!”
“Hey, breaking my arm is actually fun!”
After being given some new comfortable pants from the Dr.: “Pretty lucky day!”
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.“ We try to model thankfulness to our children but what a joy it is to see it reflected back to us from them.
I am thankful for Hunter.
Click on the image below to hear his personal rundown of his broken arm experience. You will notice that he is speaking fast, this is because the first time he tried recording it he ran out of time so he didn’t want that to happen again:). I love how he called his splint a “splinter” and that he ends it with “breaking my arm is pretty fun!”!
