The Belly Hugger was created by Brandy Noveh, a first time mom. Brandy found herself without a teaching position at 7 months pregnant. After several months of dedicating herself to being a new mom, she began planning a business relating to all things baby. This led to the online store, Momma Bird's Nest. Soon she was faced with the struggles and joys of breastfeeding her newborn. She recounts her experience:
"When I was a new breastfeeding mother I was very concerned and nervous about how to nurse my newborn in public. My first attempt at nursing while out on the go, I sat in my van with the air conditioning running. Faced with the challenges of having a new post-pregnancy body and the desire to nurse in public with confidence, my mind raced to find a solution. After much thought and increased experience with nursing in public, I finally discovered the idea for The Belly Hugger."
