I am a stay-at-home mom to a beautiful five year old girl named Zoe. Prior to marriage and mommyhood, I was in the healthcare industry for 21 years. At the “young” age of forty, I married John and within one year, Zoe was born. Did I mention that also in that year, we sold my house, sold his house, bought a new house and John changed jobs! Don’t they say to not have more than two life changing events in a year? I guess we missed that lecture!
I love being a mom. I love everything about it. One of the things I loved the most was starting Zoe on solid foods. The first time I fed her rice cereal was incredible. The look on her face when she ate it was priceless. Because of this feeding frenzy, giving her baby food and assorted snacks, the creation of Baby Banquet was born.
I was feeding Zoe baby food from a jar, two to be exact (a vegetable and fruit). I was getting pretty good about holding two jars at a time in one hand (and I have to shamefully admit at times I held three). Piece of cake, right? I thought so until my crafty daughter started swinging her arms around like she was directing an orchestra and knocked one of the jars of food out of my hand. As you can imagine, food and glass went everywhere. I remember distinctly the fear going through my mind that I would miss a small piece of glass somewhere. I was so afraid she would cut her knees or hands because she was crawling or even worse, pick up a piece of glass and put it in her mouth. I was a mess! I wished at that time I had a device that would safely and securely hold the jars of food instead of relying on my hands (or the table for that matter).
That evening, I searched the internet and couldn’t find anything I liked or thought would meet my needs. I saw all kinds of items but I wanted something I could hold in my hot-little hands. So I told my husband that evening I was going to create one. I don’t think he thought I was serious until he came home the next day and saw my initial drawings. The rest, as they say, is history. Baby Banquet was born!
