Sling Comparison Chart

To find the slings that we offer,
click here or visit the "Babywearing" category of our site.

The information in the chart above is based on my experience and opinion or the experience of others who have provided me with feedback.  It has been modified over time with the intent to give you an overall comparison for several types of baby carriers in order to help you decide what carrier might be best for you.  I have found that all carriers have both advantages and disadvantages.  It is usually best to decide what feature(s) are most important to you and find which carrier will do well in that area.  The information in the second chart (below) was taken directly from the Maya Wrap website.  If you have specific questions regarding the slings/carriers that I carry, please feel free to contact me.  Also, if you have feedback about one of these slings that you feel would help me to update my chart, I would love to hear from you.

Additionally, you may enjoy reading this article on Babywearing that I wrote highlighting my experience with several of the carriers offered on our site.

†The "Ideal Weight/Age" is what the manufacturer suggests.

*If the MamaBaby is worn with the option of 2 slings, the babies weight is distributed very well over both shoulders.

**I do not carry the Baby Bjorn carrier, but I choose to include it on my chart because it is such a well known brand.  I have used this carrier (in 2003 so there may be newer versions available now) and personally disliked many of its features.  However, I thought you might appreciate seeing how I thought it compared to some of my other brands.

What is the difference between the New Native vs. The Peanut Shell?

Common features of both
They are non bulky and can easily be stored in a diaper bag.  They are quick to put on and easy to use.  They are both versatile and can carry your baby in a variety of positions including: Newborn Carry, Hip Carry, Kangaroo Carry, and Back Carry.  Both can be used to carry newborns through 35 pound toddlers.
Super simple, sleek design.  No zippers, no rings no fuss.  These slings are sized to the person wearing it for the most optimal comfort and fit but cannot usually be shared with both Mom and Dad.

The main difference between these two carriers is in the fabric choices which is a personal preference choice usually.  The Peanut Shell also has a pocket, the New Native does not.  They both have a toy loop.  Most of The Peanut Shell styles also have a little padding on the edge of the carrier so that when your little one is in a hip carry or tummy 2 tummy position (with legs out) they are more comfortable.

What is the difference between the Baby K'tan vs. Moby Wrap:
-the both offer good back support since it goes over each shoulder
-The BabyK'tan is quicker to put on that the Moby Wrap
-They both offer many positions to carry the baby in

-The Baby K'tan cannot likely be used by several people since it must be sized to the person wearing it.

Overall I really like them both. I have worn the Moby Wrap on a few trips that we have taken to Disneyland where I was using it for several hours straight and found it to be very comfortable. I also like The Baby K'tan really well and think it is nice that it is a little quicker/easier to put on (especially outside).

What is the difference between the Moby™ Wrap vs. the Moby™ D?

There are several differences between the Moby™ Wrap and the Moby™ D. The most obvious difference is the fabric panel in the center portion of the wrap. The fabric panel is made of either hand-woven cotton, Asian brocade silk or fleece. While all fabric panels add aesthetically, the woven cotton and silk provide a piece of non-stretchy material to aide in supporting heavier babies and the fleece provides additional warmth. The other differences between the Moby™ Wrap and the
Moby™ D are listed below.

  Moby™ Wrap Moby™ D

Adjustable Ring-type Slings Comparison:

  Maya Wrap Sling MamaBaby Sling
Fabric 100% Cotton, hand-loomed, Guatemalan fabric available in 24 fabrics.  Hand loomed fabrics "give" more than other woven cottons and breathe very well. Buttery soft, 100% cotton, interlock, with a beautiful drape. It is currently available in black, navy or natural.
Shoulder Pleated. The top flap unfolds to perfectly cap your shoulder and hold your sling in place.  Weight distribution is excellent with minimal restriction of your arm. Fan style.  Leave the edges unfolded or fold them up to maximize arm mobility. Weight distribution is excellent.
Rings Metal rings which grip the fabric well but still allow easy adjustment for a good fit. Nylon rings which have a very tight grip on the fabric. The stretchiness of the MamaBaby Sling makes fine tuning adjustments unnecessary.
Positions Wear your newborn reclining or tummy to tummy.   Babies with head control may be worn in front or on your hips.   Toddlers older than about one year may also be worn on your back. Wear your baby in the same positions as the Maya Wrap.   Wearing two MamaBabies, one over each shoulder, allows even greater versatility.
Washing Instructions Machine wash in cool water and line dry.  It will shrink several inches if you put it in the dryer. Machine wash in cool water and line dry.  It will shrink as much as 12 inches if you put it in the dryer.
Other Comments Free instructional video or DVD included with purchase.  The tail has a pocket sized just right for a diaper or a few other light weight items. Comes with clear printed instructions and photographs.
Heather, I received the LilyPadz and nursing bracelet today. Thank you very much. If only the baby would get here as quickly and painlessly. I am at the point where I am ready to not be pregnant anymore!! (and I like being pregnant) Thanks again, - Joy, mommy to Devin, Taryn, and soon to be Braedin.
