This DVD provides instruction on Infant (0 to 1 year of age) and Child (1 to 8 years of age) CPR, Choking Rescue, and First Aid. It also provides tips for Childproofing Your Home & Car. Topics include but are not limited to: safety in the nursery, car seats, poison look-a-likes, and common choking hazards.
Easy to understand, step-by-step instructions are explained by a master instructor in everyday language. Instructions are accompanied by clear demonstrations on infant and child manikins. Practice sessions follow each segment of the DVD so you can review what you've learned.
Instruction is also provided on how to use CPR Teddy. Viewers of the DVD are continually urged to use CPR Teddy to practice these skills as they are watching the DVD. Research shows that you are more likely to remember your skills over time if you can practice those skills as you are learning them.

- Squeeze the left paw to practice child (1-8 years) choking rescue and CPR skills
- Squeeze the right paw to practice infant (birth to 1 year) choking rescue and CPR skills
- For both infant and child, a voice quickly reviews what to do if the infant or child is choking and then what to do if the infant or child loses consciousness. Following this quick review, the voice prompts the user through a one-minute practice session of his or her CPR skills.
- To practice rescue breathing, slip the breathing mask over the bear's nose. Open the pocket in the bear's chest, and insert the air bag into the pocket. When prompted to give a breath, blow on the breathing mask enough to see the bear's chest rise
- A metronome beeps in the background to set the pace for chest compressions
- A voice prompts you to "Press 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 . . . 30. Give breath." for five cycles or about 2 minutes.
- As you press the red heart on the bear's chest (which on an infant or child would be located between the nipples), a green light in the bowtie indicates that you are pressing the correct depth. A red light means you are pressing too hard.
- After about 2 minutes of practice, the voice will prompt you to call 911 and continue CPR.

Trainikins, Inc. was incorporated in Virginia in July 2003 by Dr. Elroy Cantrell, a practicing Emergency Room physician, and his daughter, Melissa Waugh, a health care attorney, for the purpose of developing and manufacturing unique CPR practice aids. Trainikins is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Elcare Innovations, Inc., which was also founded by Dr. Cantrell and Ms. Waugh. Elcare is a medical device research and development company, which holds the patent rights to several of Dr. Cantrell's inventions.
Both founders recognized that very few people remember how to do CPR shortly after taking a class. They wanted to create a practice aid that is inexpensive, non-threatening, and easy to use, but that also would be left out in the home and seen on a regular basis. They believed that if people could see the device, they would get an immediate memory prompt about CPR, but they may also pick it up and practice with it more often. Knowing that some people may need more prompting to remember to practice, they also initiated the CPR Teddy Reminder Program. Users can sign up to receive quarterly reminders either by e-mail or postcard to practice with CPR Teddy.
The mission of Trainikins, Inc. is to provide low-cost and user-friendly products to enable parents, grandparents, and other child care providers to practice their life-saving choking rescue and CPR skills on a regular basis.
We believe that every family deserves the added security of CPR Teddy in their home.
