The Dangling Donut design is not only extremely trendy but amazingly functional. Created long enough to be worn in eye-sight of baby and twiddled upon while nursing, the Dangling Donut line comes with a loose donut pendant that breastfeeding babies love to grasp and twiddle. The donut pendant gently skims the lower beads of the necklace and results in a wonderful rattling noise when moved. The smooth finishes on the beads are safe and delightful to touch. Length end to end is approximately 28 inches.
 
 
 
All the Mommy Necklace™ beads are made of high-quality acrylics that are tested to be free of both lead and phthalates. The necklaces are strung on an extra sturdy cording that is guaranteed from breakage and come secured with a break-away safety closure.
Our safety closure will pop apart if too much force is applied but will withstand baby's appropriate tugs. There is no worry it will wear down after time and fail to close after repeated use (like other safety clasps referred to as the "safety bead" that has since been discontinued by its manufacturer). Using no clasp is not a safe choice because it does not create a weak point in your necklace. If your baby pulls too hard, the only thing that will break is the necklace itself (vs. the clasp popping apart). In return, beads could fall loose from the nursing necklace. Any beads not picked up, present a choking hazard to baby.

As many new mothers do, I struggled with breastfeeding early on. Megan and I had a difficult time figuring each other out. With extra encouragement and a wonderful lactation consultant, I found the will to continue. Soon enough, we were nursing with ease. However, my slumbering baby soon turned into a curious, wide-eyed explorer. Megan, who used to nurse contentedly for what seemed liked hours, was now interested in everything but eating! The idea of a "nursing necklace" was exactly what I needed. It put the fun back into nursing for her.
I created our first 'Mommy & Megan Necklace' three years ago. I used my background in early childhood and sensory/tactile development to create our first necklace. Over the course of our two year nursing relationship, I watched Megan interact with our necklaces. She challenged me to continually improve them and find ways to make them more engaging and stimulating. During those two years, I had no breastfeeding challenge greater than meeting her curious needs while nursing. She craved sensory input and she put my skills to the test!
Megan is now three and many may think she has left behind her old "nursing necklaces". However, her original necklaces have turned into special keepsakes for us. As a toddler, she also enjoys using them for dress-up, putting them on her dolls, and using them for learning. I often giggle as I watch her play and think about how one little necklace started this all (we still have the first one)!
On August 30th 2007, I welcomed my second child into the word, Evan. Our nursing relationship is off to a smooth start and I can't wait to watch him grow from slumbering newborn to curious infant in just a few short months. I'm sure he'll make me re-explore our designs and only keep improving them. He already loves to grasp my necklaces as he nurses. When holding a necklace, I see an extra sense of security on his face. It really is beautiful and bonds the three of us. As Megan puts it, "He needs a necklace just like me Mama, doesn't he?" she asked me with gleeful a grin.
