The Kangapouch replaces all of the blankets. It is a "sleeping bag" made from 100% cotton and filled with white goose/duck down which makes the Kangapouch luxuriously soft and warm.

You can finally get a good nights sleep. No more worries that your baby is cold or has slipped under the covers while sleeping.

Jacky from Vancouver said this about her Goose/Duck Down sack: "I wish I had found out about your product earlier. We kept on having to get up during the night because our (then) fourteen month old would kick off her covers (she 'crawls' around the crib in her sleep). The first day we used the Kangapouch was the first uninterrupted night sleep we had - it was excellent! Thanks!"

  • Infant to one year (from shoulder to bottom pouch 33" [65 cm])
  • One Year and up ( from shoulder to bottom pouch 38" [96 cm])

Custom Kangapouches can be ordered in larger sizes, directly from the Kangapouch company. Please call us at 800-928-4905 if you need contact information.

Insulation is provided by:
White goose/duck down filling 3 - 4oz. [80 - 90 gr.]

Advantages:

  • Keeps your child covered while they move in their sleep
  • Prevents possible suffocation & entanglement with covers
  • Makes diaper changing easy & fast with no sleepers needed
  • Snuggly warm even with bedroom windows open
  • Easy to machine wash and dry
  • Designed and made by a Public Health Nurse and mother with safety and comfort in mind.
  • Adjustment features (see below) allow for growth through several sizes
  • Constant temperature is maintained from cuddle time to crib time, keeping baby calmer
  • The Kangapouch ready to go for any kind of outing
  • Two-way zipper around the side and bottom make diaper changing easy

Two adjustable sets of snaps over the shoulder to hold the Kangapouch securely in place and allow for growth adjustment.

  • Sleeveless Comfort:  These sacks are wearable sleeping bags that are sleeveless to allow free circulation of airflow to provide comfort and safety for your baby.
  • Velcro side fastener allows for adjustment and growth and a secure fit around the waist.
  • Freedom of Movement--Babies like to have their arms free. The bib reaching the back of the neck is filled with down or polyester providing ample warmth to the upper torso. A toddler will be able to pull him/herself up in the crib and move around but cannot climb out.
  • Safe Sleeping: Your down sacks (baby sleeping bags) are made with crib safety in mind for your baby. Your down sack eliminates the need for loose baby blankets and thick layered clothing, thereby, reducing the risk of rebreathing exhaled air which may be a contributing factor to SIDS.
  • 350 cotton thread count.
  • Adjustable Temperature The two-way zipper also allows you to open the Kangapouch on the bottom or the side of the pouch to allow for extra ventilation during warmer climatic conditions.

  • Completely machine washable!  Just throw your Goose Down sack (baby sleeping bag) right into your washing machine with warm water and your regular detergent.
  • Drying Instructions:  Completely dryer friendly!  Just throw your White Goose/Duck Down sack (baby sleeping bag) into your dryer with a Dryer Max Dryer Ball, tennis ball or canvas shoe to loft up the down.  Be sure to dry your White Goose/Duck Down sack thoroughly both inside and out. It is a good idea to invert your sack mid-cycle during the drying period.  NOTE:  Never air-dry/hang-dry your down sack as the down will not properly dry and the down clusters will not fluff up and will remain flat instead. The lofting down clusters are what provides the warmth for your baby in your down sack.

What your baby should wear under their down sleeping bag:

  • Although most pediatricians recommend your baby sleeps in a room that is approximately 65°F / 18°C, what your baby should wear underneath, really depends upon  a) the temperature of your house and your baby’s room  b) how your baby’s own body heat reacts with the Down  c) and whether your baby is a “warm” one or a “cold” one. What is meant by that is that some babies get warmer easier and some require more to feel warm.

  • Your baby should wake-up with warm and dry legs in our White Goose/Duck Down Sack. Your baby should never be sweaty. If your baby is sweaty in our Goose/Duck Down Sack (baby sleeping bag) this means that either: a) you have your baby’s room temperature too high or  b) you have over-dressed your baby underneath.

  • Every baby is different and every house temperature feels different. Therefore, the first night or two are going to be trial nights for you and your baby to find the best combination. Most people luck out right away, but you may need to make adjustments to what your baby wears underneath your White Goose/Duck Down Sack to give your baby (and you) the best opportunity for a wonderful night’s sleep! But don’t worry, you will soon find the perfect fit!

  • Important Tip: For your baby’s first night, try a shirt alone underneath and move-up from there if necessary. Your baby may be perfectly cozy in that alone under their sleeping sack! (Unless your house or your baby’s room is extremely cold to begin with for whatever reason.)

"Jarrod (my husband) was putting Rowan to bed tonight and after zipping him into his Kangapouch, he told me to send you a testimonial from a dad, hehe. He said, "I don't care how much that thing cost, that was the best moey we ever spent. It's worked out to being less than a dollar a night to have a toddler sleep 12 hours solid. With our other kids we always had to wait for 20 or 30 minutes until they were really sleeping and then sneak back in and cover them up, and then maybe once more during the night. Rowan sleeps like a rock and we never worry whether he's cold or not."
Kira, Northern Idaho

"I just wanted to thank you for the sleeping bag. It is really well made and has several really nice well thought-out details. I am really glad I found you. We originally bought it to be used for camping as a sleeping bag. But we love it so much, our little one sleeps in it every night - even in the summer; we just open it up all the way."
Kasia, Toronto, Ontario

"Our grand daughter was born December 2, 2001. Her mother was not using the Kangapouch sack right away and she was having problems with baby getting cold during the night. She was kicking the blankets off. As soon a she started using Kangapouch she could not believe how much better the baby slept. It even gets used when she is in the swing."
Angie, Penhold, Alberta

"I wish I had found out about your product earlier. We kept on having to get up during the night because our (then) fourteen month old would kick off her covers (she 'crawls' around the crib in her sleep). The first day we used the Kangapouch sack was the first interrupted night sleep we had - it was excellent!  We have a second daughter thirteen months younger than our first. She sleeps in the bed with us as I am breastfeeding and we bought another Kangapouch for her. When she falls asleep after feeding she would often wake up when I would move her away from me to a 'cold spot' on bed. Now she sleeps in the Kangapouch sack and she rarely wakes up after a feeding as she takes her 'warm bed' with her. Thanks!"
Jacky, Vancouver, B.C.

"I just wanted to let you know that we love our Kangapouch! We have been using it for 3 months now. At bedtime, zipping her up in the Kangapouch is the signal she needs to let her know that it's time to go to sleep. We lay her down on it and she stretches out with a smile on her face, ready to be zipped up and snuggly. Thanks for creating such a great product!"
Angela, Calgary

"Thanks so much for the Kangapouch sleep sack. Our daughter really likes it. We received it yesterday and put her in it to sleep last night, and except for feeding she slept in her bassinet all night which she hadn't done before. Hopefully that will continue. It seems to be so comfy and she snuggles right into it. Thanks again!"
Steve and Jolyn, Saskatchewan

"Hi Heather,  I received my sleep sack today. It's FABULOUS!!  Something I already like about it is the adjustable snaps over the shoulders and adjustable velcro at the sides."

It was the year 1999 when I had an "Ah-ha" moment in my life. My daughter-in-law and son brought a baby sleeping bag made out of down back from Germany. It brought back memories of 35 years before when I struggled to keep the children warm at night. I remembered the various contraptions I bought that were available at that time - some of them quite unsafe - until I finally sewed a sleeping bag, and all was well.

I had totally forgotten that time, being busy with my working life as a Public Health Nurse. Yes, I heard many stories of frustrations by parents, but never really thought back to my own frustrations and how I dealt with them.

At that same time a big campaign was under way spurred by a release from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (Washington D.C. April 8, 1999). It had a warning to parents to "remove pillows, quilts, comforters, sheepskins, stuffed toys and other soft products from the crib" because "as many as 900 infant deaths each year are still associated with suffocation in soft bedding."

The combination of seeing this sleeping bag, remembering my own frustrations and the frustrations of other new parents, and my health-and-wellness background, along with the need to make cribs safer, caused me to ask my sister-in-law, who has great skill in sewing, to help establish the Kangapouch company with me.

I searched the market and was surprised that this product was not available anywhere in Calgary. In the fall of 1999 I put Kangapouch on the market. My daughter gave the product the name as she was reminded of a Kangaroo baby sitting cozy and warm in it's pouch while traveling and sleeping.

Kangapouch has brought me pride, joy, and satisfaction because I am told by many parents who have bought Kangapouch that they sleep better now, as I finally did, because their baby is warm and safe.

I am now retired and Kangapouch Babywear Inc. is in the caring hands of my daughter Johanna Schmidt and her business partner Andrea Hrysko, whom I trained to carry on the creation of Kangapouch.

Hi Heather, I received the Peanut Shell earlier today and put Julia in it right away. She was nursing within 5 minutes of being in it! Thank you so much for your great customer service, you were wonderful to work with. You answered all my questions in such a prompt and friendly way and when the first pouch that I ordered didn't work out for us you took the time to find out what we wanted and suggest a different style, and then answer all my questions about that one. I've already ranted to a friend who visited this evening about your website and the incredible way that you helped Julia and I find a pouch that is perfect for us. I look forward to browsing your site and working with you again. I will recommend you to all my friends. Thanks again! - Jessica
