What exactly is a Slurp & Burp™?

It is a loop of layered cotton material that is worn like a sash over one shoulder of the mother and under her opposite arm- please refer to wearing instructions. The patented design allows the mother to be completely covered while allowing the baby to be uncovered. To date, there are two versions of the Slurp & Burp™. One has a burp cloth sewn into the product so baby can be burped as needed while nursing. The second does not have a burp cloth and is used for older babies who no longer need to be burped. A third version with a detachable burp cloth is in the works.

1. The Slurp & Burp is worn like a sash. Put it over your head and rest the burp cloth on one shoulder.
2. Now put your opposite arm through the loop of material. Whatever arm you put through the loop will be the side your baby nurses on.
3. Make sure the layers of material are untangled and laying flat across the front, side, and back of your body.
   

   

4. Pull the outer layer of material up toward your collar bone and the inside layer down toward your belly. Keep the layers slightly overlapping.
5. Reach under the material and prepare your breast for nursing. You must be wearing a shirt that allows your breast to be accessible from the top.
6. Cradle your baby facing you and separate the layers of material just enough to achieve latch on. The top layer of material is soft enough to rest on baby's face and provide complete coverage of your breast.
   

   

    
7. When you have finished nursing, re-layer the material and reach under the material to reposition your breast into your shirt.
8. Hold baby facing the burp cloth to catch any spit up.
9. There's no need to remove your Slurp & Burp when you're ready to nurse on the other side... simply switch shoulders with the burp cloth and switch arms through the loop. Now the Slurp & Burp crosses your body in the opposite direction.
   

   

10. When nursing is complete, take the Slurp & Burpoff, flip it inside out, and roll it up.
11. Use the elastic loop to secure the Slurp & Burp so it remains compact inside your bag. There is even a little cotton loop you can use to hang it up.
12. Practice using your Slurp & Burp when you nurse in a private setting and before you know it, you'll be nursing here, nursing there, nursing anywhere!!!

After seeing the need for a product that allows mothers to discreetly and comfortably nurse in public, Missy Reder created the Slurp & Burp™, an innovative nursing accessory that covers the breast without covering the baby. As a mother of four children the age of five and under, as well as a speech-language pathologist and yoga instructor in Brooklyn, Missy wanted to find a way to easily incorporate nursing into her busy lifestyle. Moms on the go like Missy can wear their Slurp & Burp™ during everyday activities such as dining out, riding the subway, and getting pedicures.  Using a Slurp & Burp™ is less conspicuous than using a blanket/shawl because it just looks like you're cradling your baby.
 
 “I have always felt proud to be able to nurse my baby,” said Missy, the wife of a NY firefighter. "I want to be able to make eye contact and communicate with my baby while I'm nursing her. I never wanted to hide my baby under a blanket or hide altogether in a designated area, or worse yet-- a bathroom."
