‘mavella’ ice cream, 12 pounds & new grass

August 05, 2009

It has been a while since I checked in:).  I have been having a lot of fun with our "Get Fit, Have Fun: M4L Challenge" and haven't been posting on here as much, sorry!  Here is a quick update:

Today was Hunter's 6th birthday.

I am amazed that he is 6.  Here are 6 highlights of him right now:
-He says "mavella" instead of "vanilla".
-He is amazingly affectionate to his brother and sister.
-He has to make his bed, get dressed, clean his room and work on his handwriting before he can play his Wii for 15 min each day.  He does this really, really well 99% of the time and if he doesn't, no big deal, just no Wii!
-He loves to take showers and pretends to "skate" on the bars of soap.  He prefers to wear goggles while he washes his hair to keep the soap out.
-He has been taking swimming lessons once a week for about 6 months now.  He is progressing very well and really enjoys it a lot.

-He eats pizza and quesadillas top down, layer by layer.

Quinten now weighs a little over 12 pounds (he was 7 pounds at birth on 6/16).  He is eating well (obviously:) and sleeps good too.  Most nights he wakes up once between 3 and 4 to eat and then is good until around 6-7 AM which seems fantastic.  I go to bed late most nights so the fact that he isn't up every 2-3 hours like Hunter was as a baby is really wonderful.  Quinten's eyes are a very dark blue and we think they are so pretty (Hunter and Ashlyn both have dark brown eyes so blue is a treat).  His hair has thinned out a bit on top and he has a lot more awake time now.  He is a very contented baby and his cheeks are OH SO kissable.  He gets the hiccups a lot.  It was daily for a while but just lately it seems he isn't getting them quite as often.  (Below he is laying on his beautiful Yaya blanket personalized with his initials.)

We have had some really exciting progression in our yard lately.  When we moved here two years ago the land was totally empty and full of weeds with no landscaping.  We recently Hydro-seeded and the grass is coming up really nicely.  We should be able to mow it for the first time in the next few weeks and then we can really start enjoying it!  The photos below were all taken off our our back porch overlooking our back yard.  The first image was after Trent mowed the VERY tall weeds down the first summer we lived here.  The play yard was put in the first summer we lived here, the patio, rocks and trees were put in last year and the grass this year.

I am feeling very blessed.  My family is amazing and my cup is full.  I have been focusing on some fitness goals lately (mentioned in a previous post) and can tell my energy is returning.  My next goal is to make my time with God more of a priority.  I can tell that when things are good in my life, my response is to be grateful but not as active in my quest to seek my Savior.  I pray, but not fervently and my time spent reading the Bible is here and there.  I am filled with gratitude that God gives me GRACE.  That my salvation is not dependent on fulfilling a list of duties (such as reading my Bible every day).  There is nothing I can do to make Him love me more and there is NOTHING I can do to make Him love me less.  Therefore everything is simply a response to my gratitude for what He has done for me.  It is easy to feel too busy and too tired but I realized today that if I can make room for 20 min workouts I can be more proactive in my time with God.  Not because I have to, but because I want to and on days that I may not want to, I pray that God will give me the "want to".  I will post again in about a week and let you know how I am doing in this area.

Mom 4 Life. Now that Ashley owns Mom 4 Life, I am focusing my energies in homeschooling and asking God to use me in other areas.
