10 days of fruits and vegtables

January 03, 2012

Welcome to the New Year mamas!  Did you make any goals for 2012?

I am writing this post on the evening of January 1 from bed as I munch on a few pieces of Christmas chocolate. The rest of our super excessive amount of chocolate dipped Oreo balls, dipped Ritz crackers with peanut butter filling, molasses crinkle cookies, Ghirardelli chocolate squares, yada, yada, yada has just been sent to the freezer where it will require more advanced planning to enjoy.  I am ready to cleanse out my system. The sugar has been threatening to have it’s way with my immune system and I will not go down without a fight!

Juice it up!

A while back a friend of mine told me about a documentary she watched called “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.”

The name alone had me hooked and after renting it from NetFlix and seeing first hand how juicing can transform your health, I was inspired to do a mini version of the 60 day juice fast from the movie.  My current diet is already pretty healthy and I am not trying to lose weight. However, I do feel that I could benefit from a 10 day “reboot” to help clean the sugar from my system and help my immune system get back on track.  It will also serve to help me focus more intently on my goal of finding new vegetable dishes for our family to enjoy.  My plan is to juice exclusively for the first day.  Thereafter I will juice for breakfast, have raw fruits or veggies with juice for lunch and enjoy dinner with my family (making sure to include raw or cooked vegetables) while abstaining from processed sugary desserts.  Tomorrow (Jan 2) will be day one.

If you have ever considered juicing I want to give you the polite kick in the pants to make 2012 be the year you do something about it.

We purchased our juicer earlier this year and it is now a regular part of our morning routine (the kids really enjoy helping out too).  To read more about why we decided to start juicing and the kind of juicer we purchased read “Juicing at home: our family’s story.”

What about you?

Do you juice?  What are your favorite things to juice?  Do you have questions about juicing?  Want to join with me and do your own reboot (click here to pick from a few different reboot options as well as recipes for smoothies, juicing, veggies, soups, salads and more)?  How are you kicking off 2012, any new goals?
