Bra size A) Measure around the chest, just under the arms, above the bust. This measurement is your bra band size. For example, 38" means that you are size 38. If your measurement ends in a fraction or is an odd number, round up to the next even size. Cup size B) Measure snugly around the fullest point of the bust, keeping the tape measure level without squeezing (measurement B). C) Measure below the breasts (measurement C). The difference between measurements B and C equals your cup size; refer to the chart below (for example: if measurement B is 40" and measurement C is 37" - the cup size is 40"-37"=3", or C).

Q: Why do I need maternity or nursing bras? Why can't I buy fashion bras in a larger size?
A: Most women will experience increased breast size during pregnancy, so you will need a size larger than your normal during this period. Fashion bras are not specifically designed for support of the heavier breasts.

Q: How many maternity/nursing bras do I need?
A: As you start nursing, you will find that you will have to wash bras more often than usual. I recommend at least 3-4 maternity/nursing bras.

Q: How do I care for my nursing brase?
A: As with all delicate lingerie, I recommend hand washing or delicate cycle in the washing machine with cool water and regular detergent. No bleach or fabric softener should be used. Hang to dry.

Q: When should I buy my first maternity/nursing lingerie?
A: I recommend buying your maternity/nursing lingerie when you no longer fit into your regular bra and panties, which for most women is during mid- to late-pregnancy. It is not recommended to buy nursing bras during the first days of nursing, when milk first comes in and breast are often engorged – this size is often larger than your normal size

Since moving in 2005 to Eastern Washington and finding no La Leche League groups I started two new ones and currently lead them! Also, I am a trained childbirth Doula and I taught natural childbirth classes for 11 years. It has taken several years to get through Midwifery school and apprentice with other midwives but I am now building my own practice and attending births in Spokane, Moses Lake and Tri-cities and anywhere inbetween! I have had a retail business selling breastfeeding-related items since 1986.
